RESERVATIONS
TASTE PORTUGAL is as much about the wine as it is the food, and the pairings made at our dinners are always supreme. This event, however, puts wine centre stage, inviting guests to get to know some of the best Portuguese grapes on offer.
28º–50º is the inspirational vision of founders and owners, master sommelier Xavier Rousset and top chef Agnar Sverrisson, who also own the Michelin starred restaurant Texture. For this special event, the team at the newest venue in their wine bar family, including head sommelier Caroline Brangé and executive chef Ben Mellor, are opening their doors to Antonio Lopes and Henrique Sá Pessoa, sommelier at the Conrad Algarve’s Gusto and one of Portugal’s top celebrity chefs, respectively.
Together, they will present a series of wines, including Malhadinha Late Harvest from the Alentejan Herdade da Malhadinha Nova; the whites Anselmo Mendes Contacto Alvarinho 2013 and Vinha Formal Luis Pato 2011; the rosé Tears of Anima 2013 from Herdade do Portocarro in the Lisbon region of Península de Setúbal; Redoma Reserva 2011 Branca from Niepoort in the heart of the Douro Valley and finally, coming full circle, the red Esporao Private Selection 2009 from Herdade do Esporao, also in the Alentejo.
Each wine will be accompanied by a delightful gourmet snack, prepared by the chefs. These will include Mellor’s foie gras terrine; crab salad, mango, avocado and coriander on crouton; and ham hock and trotter ballotine and Pessoa’s tomato water, mackerel tartare and pickled cucumber; gamba, aubergine caviar and chorizo oil; and suckling pork with Asian pickle.
