Wines to Rival the Best

‘We are talking about very exciting products, products that can easily rival some of the best French and Italian wines on the market.’

SPEAKING AT THE close of the event, Murano’s head sommelier Matteo Ramazzina summed up:

‘The Portuguese wine market is very little known. When you talk about Portuguese wines, 99.9% of our average guests always tend to think about Port, Madeira or those extremely aggressive, full-bodied red wines, when, in fact, that is only scratching the very bare surface of what the wine business is in Portugal.

It is very exciting to find out about all of these Portuguese wines that I wouldn’t even have dreamed of selecting myself because I genuinely admit my ignorance on the subject. I know the most famous, but we are talking about very limited productions, wines that even they can barely get their hands on. We are talking about very exciting products, products that can easily rival some of the best white Burgundies on the market, reds that have very little to envy of some of the very best Barolos and Pinot Noirs. It was very exciting. It was a huge success. What matters the most is that each and every single one of our guests absolutely loved it. They loved it and they had nothing but good comments about it.

Leaving wine and cuisine on the side and looking at what else we want to do – make our guests happy – we achieved what we wanted to do. We actually over-achieved – and we’re very happy about it.’
